Happy Spring!!!

Math - This week the students will take the Unit 4 Assessment on multiplication and division. We will review it today and take the test tomorrow. Wednesday we will start Unit 5, decimals.  

Language Arts - This week the students will start their conclusions to their persuasive essays. They will type it out and hopefully start the editing process. 

We are also going to start learning about the American Revolution. The students will start a new reading group novel focusing on historical fiction and the Revolution. As usual, they will have a certain amount of pages and an assignment due by Friday. 

Social Studies - We are going to start learning about the Road to the Revolution. The students will choose a certain aspect of what led us to the American Revolution to research and teach the class.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Fingers crossed tomorrow's storm blows out to sea! ;-)

Math - We will continue practicing division. This week they will need to crack the case of the divided dragon by solving division problems to get clues. 

Language Arts - This week the students will continue with their body paragraphs, they have listed their three reasons to support their claim. Now they need to provide evidence (quotes, statistics, etc) to prove their reasoning. 

Science - We are finishing up our Mixtures and Solutions unit. This week the students will show what they know by creating a one-pager to go along with their learning.

Winter snowstorm followed by a spring-like day, that's Maine for ya! ;-) I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. 

We will have parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, March 23rd as well as Thursday, March 30th. The chorus will be headed to the high school on Wednesday to participate in a district-wide choral workshop. It is so much fun!

Math - This week we have started dividing using double-digit divisors. We are going to just keep practicing and practicing. 

Language Arts - The students are finishing up with their introductory paragraphs and we will move into our body paragraphs, starting with finding three premises (or reasons) for our arguments. 

Science - We will continue our unit on mixtures and solutions. We have learned about alchemists and what kind of solutions can change a substance.

I hope everyone had a wonderful February Break! Now, if we can just keep the snow at bay we can get excited about spring. ;-)

Math - We are starting long division. Your students will be learning "the traditional" method, starting with single-digit divisors and moving into double-digit divisors next week. 

Language Arts - This week we will be working on the introductory paragraph of our persuasive essays. The students will be writing their enticing hook sentences, giving their readers a quick summary of what they are about to read, and finishing off by stating their claims. 

Social Studies - The students are writing their colonial journals in cursive. It's a great lesson on fine motor skills, focus, and perseverance, for sure. ;-)

Science - We have started our unit on mixtures and solutions. This usually tends to be a fan favorite. :-)

The Winterfest was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who helped fundraise and volunteer. The kids had a great time! I will add pictures to our photos link. 

I hope everyone has a wonderful and restful February Break! 

  • This Thursday is our last Woodland and Wonders. Please make sure your student comes dressed and prepared for the outside. 
  • Tuesday, Feb 14th - We will have a little Valentine's Day celebration. The students can bring in Valentine's to share with the class. If they choose to do so, I just ask that they bring one in for everyone. If you would like to bring in a treat to share, please sign up here. Valentine's Day sign-up
  • Friday, Feb 17th - I Love to Read Day! Students can wear PJ's and bring their favorite books!

Math - This week the students will be working on a project to design and build a house for one of their stuffed animals. They will need to measure their stuffed animal and multiply it by a mixed number to create their height, width, and length. They then will find the area of each side, measure, cut, and build. Hopefully, it will be a fun STEAM project all around. 

Language Arts - The students need to finish their fantasy books by Friday. This week's focus will be on summarizing our reading.  

They are still researching their topics for their persuasive essays. This week we will learn how to organize our notes to prepare us for our writing. 

Social Studies - This will be our last week of living in the colonies. The students are going to put their hard work learning cursive to the test by writing their colonial journals all in cursive. They are so excited ;-)

I can't believe we are already talking about February vacation. This year is just flying by.

  • Friday, Feb 10th, we will have our Winterfest. Again, the students will be outside, so they need to dress accordingly. This a reminder that your student came home with our Winterfest Fundraiser.  This is our biggest fundraiser and really helps in funding exceptional experiences for our children. 
  • Tuesday, Feb 14th - We will have a little Valentine's Day celebration. The students can bring in Valentine's to share with the class. Language Arts - We are in the third week of our fantasy book groups. This week your student will focus on analyzing the many problems the characters face in the fantasy genre. 

The students have chosen persuasive essay topics. This week we will learn notetaking strategies. 

Social Studies - The students have landed and have had to deal with some hardships as well as some celebrations of good fortune. They will continue their quest to keep their colonies alive.

Well, January just flew by! Yikes! We have a lot of exciting things coming up in February, every Friday until vacation is some sort of fun event. 

  • This Friday we are headed to Portland for a production, Wabanaki Stories. The students have been asked to dress their best for this day out at the theater. 
  • Friday, Feb 10th, we will have our Winterfest. This a reminder that your student came home with our Winterfest Fundraiser.  This is our biggest fundraiser and really helps in funding exceptional experiences for our children. Thank you to all who have signed up and received donations. Our progress so far is pretty amazing! 
  • Friday, Feb 17th - I Love to Read Day! Students can wear PJ's and bring their favorite books!

Math - Today we will start Unit 4. This unit will focus on double-digit multiplication and division. 

Language Arts - We are on the second week of our fantasy book groups. This week your student will focus on analyzing the characters in the fantasy genre. 

We will also begin thinking about our persuasive essays. The students will debate some fun topics (are cats better than dogs, socks with sandals are cool, is basketball better than football, homework should be optional, etc.) to get a feel for needing evidence to back up their claims. They will then choose their own topics that they would like to research and write a 5-paragraph essay to inform and persuade their reader. 

Social Studies - Today we are sailing the ocean blue and hopefully landing in the new world. They will then begin their struggles of being a colonist. They will be keeping a journal of their experiences. 

Science - We will be starting our unit on Mixtures and Solutions this week.
