  • This Friday will be our Halloween Costume walk. The students can come in costumes if they choose and we will walk around the school in a parade to show our friends. The parade will be in the morning so they may want to bring something to wear afterward.

Monday, October 17, 2022

I hope everyone was able to get outside for a bit this weekend.

  • First off, your students did such an awesome job at our first-ever, whole-school, student-led, morning assembly last Friday. I cried with pride over how well they did. 💜💜💜
  • I have created a link to our 2022-2023 photo album. I will add pictures throughout the year. So far, we have pictures of some STEM activities, Woodland and Wonders, GMRI, and working in the Reading Garden. 2022-2023 Photos I will also add the link to the side of this blog and let you know when I update it with more photos.
  • The book fair is going on this week. Our day to go to the book fair is on Wednesday, but Mrs. Moloney is letting the kids go down at other times during the week as well. The ice cream social/book fair night is this Wednesday also. Our volume zoo animals will be displayed that night in the Home Ec room.
  • Looking forward to seeing some of you on Thursday!

Math - This week we will focus on realizing that fractions are a division problem and how to interpret equations.

Language Arts - The students will be creating story arcs for their personal narratives and using that to write their second drafts.

Book groups are in full swing. This week's focus will be on character development. Ask your student about his or her book. The groups meet on Friday and the students need to come prepared. They have time during the day to read their books, but they can also take them home if they think they need more time.

Science - We will continue researching and coming up with questions for our topics. Along with STEM Friday.

Your students worked incredibly hard last Thursday in the Reading Garden. They are absolutely amazing!!!! The Reading Garden looks great. We will continue this Thursday morning. We are almost ready to plant our native ground cover.

Tuesday, October 11, 2022

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! The fall colors seemed to pop this weekend!

If you would like a parent-teacher conference, here is the link to sign up October Parent/Teacher Conference sign up Just send me an email if you would like a virtual conference or if these times don't work for you.

Math - The students will be taking the math NWEA today. Tomorrow we will start Unit 2 in math which will focus on fraction multiplication.

Language Arts - This week your students will start reading their book group books and thinking about points of view.

We will also start our personal narrative unit.

Our class and Ms. Beyea's class have been working together to host an assembly this Friday morning around the topic of diversity. The students will be reading a book called, We Are All Welcome Here, and they will talk about what diversity means to them.

Science - The students will start researching their water topics this week. Last week we talked about the importance of research and looking at the author's purpose and biases. We want to use multiple resources for different points of view.

We have also been working with Mrs. Moloney (our librarian) in our Reading Garden. It has grown amuck with invasive plants. We have been identifying the plants using an app. And we have been talking about what we should plant there instead (native ground cover is our decision). This Thursday we are going to have a day of work and investigation. If you could remind your student to wear clothes that can get dirty, and shoes that can get wet, that would be great. We are also looking for shovels. If you have one we can use and are able to drop it off at school, that would be awesome!

Happy October!

A reminder that we are going to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute this coming Thursday. Your child will need to bring a home lunch that day unless you reached out to let me know that they would prefer peanut butter and jelly from the cafeteria.

The students will be taking the Reading NWEA test tomorrow, Tuesday.

Friday is a teacher workshop day so there is no school for the students.

Math - This week the students are creating their animals for the volume zoo. So far, they have been quite creative.

We will also continue learning about parts of speech and sentence structure through picture books.

Science - The students will be starting a self-guided exploration of water on our planet. They have chosen a topic that they are most passionate about or want to investigate further. They will research, explore, question, and create a final project to share with the class.
