 Last stretch! We've got this! ;-) I hope everyone has an amazing holiday and relaxing break. 💜

  • On Thursday, December 22nd we will be having a Winter Break Kickoff breakfast to start our last day before vacation. If you would like to donate an item to be shared, here is the Sign-up Breakfast It will also be a pajama day. :-)
  • No School on Friday to start off our winter break

Math - The students will be working on The Case of the Secret Holiday Party. They will need to use their math skills to solve tasks and find clues. 

Language Arts and Social Studies - Holidays Around the World Scavenger hunt, continue reading about the countries, writing in our circle notebook, and art projects from the different holidays we have learned about. We are going to be busy.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We are going to have a fun two weeks until break!

  • On Thursday, December 22nd we will be having a Winter Break Kickoff breakfast to start our last day before vacation. If you would like to donate an item to be shared, here is the Sign-up Breakfast
  • MGWS is having another food drive this week. Our class has been asked to bring in peanut butter and/or jelly. Any little bit helps!
  • This Friday the chorus heads to the elementary school to show their talents.

Math - This week the students will start learning the concepts of division and dividing unit fractions by whole numbers. 

Language Arts - The students will continue learning about different holidays around the world. 

They will also be writing a short story about being stuck in a snow globe ;-).

Social Studies - This week we will learn about the mystery behind Roanoke. We will read different scenarios, pull out evidence from each, and come up with our own theories. 

One day a week the students go to our Makerspace room with Mrs. V. Ask them about the cool things they are doing!

These next few weeks are going to go fast and furious. We have a lot of fun learning planned! :-)

Our Holiday Boutique shopping day is Wednesday this week. No items are more than $2. The students can buy holiday gifts for family or friends and the money goes to support families in our community. 

Math - In math this week we are going to explore situations about multiplying fractions and multiplying non-unit fractions.

Language Arts - We have another mentor sentence to dissect this week. We will stay focused on parts of speech and sentence structure and add in some simple subjects and predicates. 

During the next few weeks, we will be learning about different holidays around the world. The students will learn about maps, flags, countries, and cultures. We will also create art projects to go along with the different traditions. They will read, write, and research. :-)

Science - This is our last week for robotics. I will add pictures to our link. They are amazing engineers and programmers!

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday break! It went very fast ;-)

I have added a few pictures of our Balloons Over Broadway creations to our pictures link. 

A reminder if you have any donations you would like to bring in for the holiday boutique, I know they are still looking. I did a little closet cleaning this weekend ;-) I'll let you know when our shopping days are being held. 

Math - This week we have started Unit 3. We will continue with multiplying fractions, first being able to explain it conceptually and then moving into the algorithm along with mixed numbers and division. 

Language Arts - We will be bringing our Mentor Sentences back, focusing on parts of speech, and sentence structure.

We will also be reading a short story called Kaddo's Wall, which is a West African folktale. The students will be learning rich vocabulary and having evidence-driven discussions.  

Science - Robotics! The students will be building Lego robots, programming on the robots themselves, and then moving towards programming on iPads. They will be conducting many challenges and journaling along the way.

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend! We have a jammed-pack week coming up, hold on to your hats! :-)

  • This Thursday we will be hiking at Vaughan Woods. We will be taking a bus around 9:30 and will be back for lunch. Please remind your students to dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, and bring a water bottle and backpack to hike with. If any parents would like to join us, please let me know. You can meet us there or jump on the bus with us. 
  • Thanksgiving break is Wednesday, Nov 23 - Friday, Nov 25
  • Next Monday we will be walking to Berwick Academy to see a photo exhibit called 29 Mainers.

Math - We will finish up with Unit 2 this week and have our End-of-Unit Assessment on Wednesday. 

Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science - The students are just finishing editing their personal narratives with peers and myself. We will celebrate all of their hard work by sharing our stories with the class. 

In honor of Thanksgiving, we will be reading about early colonial settlers along with the Wampanoag tribes. The students will also be reading about the first Macy's Day parade and all of the science and engineering that goes into making the floats. We will finish off by making our own floats using balloons next week. The whole 5th grade will have a Balloons Over Broadway parade on Tuesday morning.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I went out a played a round of golf in short sleeves and shorts, crazy! ;-)

  • This is a reminder that we have a teacher workshop day on Tuesday, November 8th, and the students do not have school. Also, we will not have school on Friday, November 11th in honor of Veteran's Day.
  • Thursday, November 10th is our Veteran's Day assembly. The chorus has been asked to dress nicely, possibly in red, white, and blue. It would be wonderful if we could have the whole school dress up for the assembly as well. 
  • Reminder that the food drive will be going on until November 16th. 

Math - This week we will practice finding the area of rectangular figures with fractional side lengths 

Language Arts - The students will focus on their personal narrative endings, and then peer edit. We should be completing our final drafts by next week. 

The students need to finish their reading group books this week. They will focus on summarizing and have their last meeting on Thursday.  

Science - Water project presentations are this week. I am so excited to see them shine! We will also be watching ecology presentations from scientists around the world through OurEcho Biodiversity. Ask your students about them. 

We will move on to Social Studies next week.

 What a great fall weekend! I cannot believe it's November this week, already! 

  • This is a reminder that we have a teacher workshop day on Tuesday, November 8th, and the students do not have school. Also, we will not have school on Friday, November 11th in honor of Veteran's Day.
  • Thursday, November 10th is our Veteran's Day assembly. Your student brought home a permission form if they would like to bring a Veteran to join us on that day. If you are interested in volunteering that day, here is the link to do so https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b4bafab28a5fc1-marshwood
  • I added a few pictures from our Halloween Parade to our photo link. 
  • Expect to see your student's circle notebook journal coming home on Wednesday. It is due back on Friday. Thank you so much for participating in this. I know your students love to read your responses. 

Math - This week we will continue to divide to multiply unit and non-unit fractions. The students will also practice converting from mixed numbers to improper fractions. 

Language Arts - The students will be adding thought shots, snapshots, and strong transition words to their personal narratives this week. 

In our book groups this week, we will read and think about possible themes in our novels. They will meet in their groups on Friday. Please remind them to come prepared. 

Science - We will finish our water projects this week and present them on Monday. And as always, we will have STEAM Friday.
